King Uzziah

Today's Bible Study Lesson

In the Year King Uzziah died!

Scripture Reference

Isaiah 6:1

Beloved: The name “Uzziah” means “Yahweh is my Strength”. What a meaningful weighty name! Well then, why did Isaiah see the Lord when “King Uzziah” died? Here’s a short synopsis of King Uzziah: (1) He was also referred to as Azariah (2) King of the Kingdom of Judah (3) One of Amaziah’s sons (4) Began to reign at 16 years and reigned for 52 years.

Why is God speaking to us about King Uzziah today? Why is he saying to us when “King Uzziah” is dead in my and your life, we will see his glory? What is it about King Uzziah that the Holy Spirit is illuminating today? What does the death of "King Uzziah" have to do with us having an encounter with the Glory of God.

As I was researching on King Uzziah and waiting on the Lord; here's what the Lord revealed. During the earlier part of King Uzziah’s reign under Zechariah the Prophet, he was faithful and obedient and did all that was pleasing to the Lord. 2nd Kings 15:3. 2nd Chronicles 26:4-5. Then came the day: Two things led to his downfall: PRIDE and DISOBEDIENCE.

PRIDE

In Jerusalem he made machines designed by skillful men for use on the towers and on the corner defenses to shoot arrows and hurl large stones. Uzziah conquered the Philistines and the Arabians, and received tribute from the Ammonites. He re-fortified the country, re-organized and re-equipped the army, and personally engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was a vigorous and able ruler, and his name spread abroad, even to the entrance of Egypt. 2nd Chronicles 26:8-14.

DISOBEDIENCE

He entered the temple of Jehovah to burn incense on the altar of incense. Azariah the High Priest saw this as an attempt to usurp the prerogatives of the priests and confronted him with a band of eighty priests, saying, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense." 2 Chronicles 26:18. In the meantime; a great earthquake shook the ground, and a rent was made in the temple, and the bright rays of the sun shone through it, and fell upon the king's face, insomuch that leprosy seized upon him immediately. Uzziah was suddenly struck with tzaraat before he had offered incense2nd Chronicles 26:19. He was driven from the Temple and compelled to reside in "a separate house" until his death. 2 Kings 15:5. 2 Chronicles 26:3.

IMPLICATION

King Uzziah started well, just like you and I; he was faithful and obedient to God. But he became STRONG; look at how many enemies he destroyed. He became FAMOUS; His name spread even to the entrance of Egypt. He began to be SELF-DEPENDENT. He began to believe the lie, that he was “something.” BELOVED, DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIE! Does this remind you of Nebuchadnezzar? He also became strong, self-dependant and famous; and began to reflect on how strong his arm was.Daniel 4:30. What about Samson ? He wist not that the glory of the Lord had departed. Judges 16:20. He did not even realize the presence of God was gone.

Whatever our brand of PRIDE and DISOBEDIENCE; God is calling us to bring to death King Uzziah in our lives so we can see his glory, including myself. God resists the proud but he gives grace to the humble. 1st Peter 5:5-6.

Prayer Point Today Beloved:

O Lord God, I repent and ask you to cut the tree and root of Pride and Disobedience in my life.

Father God, please give me the spirit of Humility, Meekness, Lowliness of Mind and Obedience in my life.
